What to expect in Episode 3

So I was sitting at home drinking energy beverage and I started thinking about the Episodic storyline.
So with the anticipation of Episode 3 (Here-after shortened to Ep 3(Same goes for Episode 2 – Ep 2)) I made a little guide:

[NOTE THAT IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED PORTAL OR EPISODE 1&2 YOU MIGHT FIND SPOILERS INSIDE HERE!]

THE BEGINNING

So as we saw in the end of Ep 2 Eli died, Alyx was left to mourn, D0g was pretty pissed and the Advisors had left the building. Oh and there was the closing of the super-portal and a chopper.

So it is safe to assume that the story begins from there. Alyx is probably pretty pissed and he wants to go after the Advisor that killed her dad, but now Mr. Calhoun appears and stops her little mindless wrath  and says something cheesy like “That wouldn’t have happened if I would’ve been in episode two!” then there’s probably some talking, some more mourning and the adventure after never to be Mrs. Vance (Judith Mossman) starts to the Arctic PLACE starts.

“So why again are they going to “The Arctic Place”?”

Oh silly pay more attention, it WAS a bloody twist in Ep 2…
THE BOREALIS, remember?

http://www.halflife2.net/wiki/images/thumb/6/60/Ep2_Borealis.jpg/750px-Ep2_Borealis.jpg

The Borealis with some cargo from Aperture Laboratories.

It is been told that the Borealis disappeared with all the crew and the cargo it was loading.
And now, the Combine are after it. Why?
Well it only carries the means to open a new portal to the Combine main world.
Oh and did I mention it also carries means to fully destroy the Combine rule on this world?

And with that we come to the:

CONCLUSION OPTION

Remember in Half-Life 1 G-Man nicely asked you what you wanna do with your life?
To end it or to sell it to him.

Well basically what I’m thinking is the chance to do that choice here again,

1. Use the THINGS on the Borealis to destroy the Combine rule for once and for all
(Probably bringing the whole world down)
2. Stop the Combine using it and then bury/destroy it for ever
(Making fighting the Combine harder but ensuring that the world we live in wont collide into meaningless… dust)

“But Mr. Erik-kipz, what happens with the G-Man?”

Well I think it’s safe to assume he walks a fine line.

I mean, he really has the means to stop you (The Alyx healing part in Ep 2) but he doesn’t stop you, he let’s you do what people want you to do.

So this really leaves a question “Why?”

Personally I hope we’ll see more from this man in Ep 3.

THE G-MAN IS FREEMAN THEORY

Well I won’t say “Yay” or “Nay” on that, I’ll just look at the facts:

1. He DOES look a lot like Freeman BUT! he talks too much.

2. Why would Freeman want to cause the downfall of Earth?

That’s a discussion that could go on for ever.

LET’S GET BACK TO THE ROOT OF THINGS AND MOSSMAN

So basically the year is around 1998-2000 and we have two scientific big-minds trying to over-do eachother.

First we have Black Mesa, the place where our story begins and where our hero comes from.
And then we have Aperture Laboratories where our second main story arch begins from.

So basically Black Mesa is an old place deciding from the looks of things, they have succeded in creating a teleportation system but the secrecy between different parts finally creates a rift and thus a lot of shit hits the fan and the Portal Storms begin thus bringing Combine onto Earth and enslaving it.

Aperture Laboratories on the other hand don’t really care how they do their experiments because they seem to be a new company with semi-sadistic ideas because of the lack of support (Read: MONEY) from the upper hand (Read: GOVERNMENT) so they decide to do things their way.
They succeed in creating an AI named GlaDOS to control their place. The plan goes WRONG and GlaDOS smokes ‘em all. But before that happens Aperture Laboratories succeeds in creating portals faster and easier than seen in Black Mesa.

Now don’t get me wrong, judging from the technology Aperture Laboratories MIGHT be new but behind the scenes we CAN see old stuff, an older facility beneath it all. Oh and did I mention the calendars from year 1983?

Portal Calendar

Portal Calendar - "The girls of Aperture Science" dated September 1983

So basically that leaves this little open time-frame, more to be seen in Portal 2.
BUT! GlaDOS kinda mentions that the world is screwed in her speech, but that might just be the Portal Storms or heck – the Cold War!

Enough about secret government-funded science-complexes, let’s talk about Mossman.

She seems to be in heaps of trouble from the scenes in Ep 1 and Ep 2.
I kinda hope she’s alive.

Uh I guess I’ve said everything I wanted about Episode 3, thanks for reading through 800 words of nerd-text!

You completely lost me when you decided to talk about the G(ordon)-(Free)man theory.

Nice date to talk about this though…

  2. Alex Says:

I think that the G-man wants you to use that “DESTROY ALL COMBINE” technology… I guess he has his reasons…

  3. Blackout62 Says:

I think everyones wrong with the timeline and Black Mesa went down in the early 1990s and HL2 is only 10-15 years later. (evidence being that Kleiner isn’t 60 something)

  4. ErikKiller Says:

Yeah but people take 2000 for the sake of easiness…

  5. Mike Says:

    And those zero’s are attractive.

  6. ErikKiller Says:

AND people DID think that the world will end in 2000 so it’s PERFECT!
